Islamabad: The rain continued to fall in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and adjoining areas intermittently for the third consecutive day on Tuesday turning the weather pleasantly cold and forcing the residents to wrap up warm before stepping out.

It rained both heavily and lightly all through the day with strong winds blowing. Though the weather was cloudy, the sun peeked through clouds at times.

The Met Office said on Tuesday evening that during the last 24 hours, 55 millimetres rainfall was reported in Islamabad’s New Airport area, 34 in Zero Point, 32 in Saidpur, 33 in Golra and 39 in Bokra and 31 in Rawalpindi’s Shamsabad area and 17 in Chaklala with the minimum temperature being 13 degree Celsius.

It forecast that the rains would continue falling intermittently until Wednesday morning.

Before the current rainy spell began early on Sunday, the weather got warm in the daytime prompting people to stop using woollies. Some even packed away sweaters, jackets and woollen shawls. However, the residents resumed dressing warmly before leaving home due to the continuous rainfall and overcast weather, which lowered temperatures.

As it was a public holiday on account of the Pakistan Day, the people drove out of their homes to enjoy the pleasant weather, especially from the afternoon to late hours. Traffic mess was seen on major roads. Though restaurants and cafés suspended indoor service due to pandemic-induced restrictions, the visitors showed up in large numbers to take food and snacks away. Sellers of samosa, pakora and jaleebi also reported high sales.
