Faryal files review plea in SHC against suspension order
KARACHI: Pakistan People's Party MPA Faryal Talpur filed an application in the Sindh High Court, seeking a review of the SHC’s Sukkur Bench order in which the court suspended her membership as Member Provincial Assembly over increase in dog bite cases in her respective constituency.
The SHC’s Sukkur Bench had suspended the membership of two PPP MPAs -- Faryal Talpur and Malik Asad Sikandar -- over increase in dog bite cases in their respective constituencies. Filing the application before the SHC, Faryal submitted that the MPA could not interfere in the working of the local bodies governments and requested the court to review the interim order.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government had also filed an application before the chief justice of the SHC, requesting the chief justice to transfer the proceedings of petitions in which SHC’s Sukkur Bench suspended the membership of two PPP MPAs from Sindh over increase in dog bite cases in their respective constituencies to the High Court’s principal seat in Karachi.
The AG Sindh submitted that the SHC’s Sukkur Bench order was issued in violation of the Supreme Court’s order in which the apex court had reiterated that High Courts do not enjoy suo moto jurisdiction under Article 199 of the Constitution.
