After reporting no death due to Covid-19 in Sindh over a 24-hour period on Sunday, the provincial government has announced that the province’s respite has continued for 48 hours now. However, 174 more people have tested positive for the viral coronavirus infection.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said in his daily situation report on the health emergency on Monday that since no death has been reported over a 48-hour period, the province’s death toll due to the disease remains at 4,479.

He said that 6,622 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, resulting in 174 people, or three per cent of those who were screened, being diagnosed with Covid-19. The provincial government has so far conducted 3,219,240 tests, which have resulted in 263,463 positive cases, which means that 8.2 per cent of those screened have been found to be infected, he added.

Shah said that 5,149 patients across the province are currently infected: 4,877 are in self-isolation at home, eight at isolation centres and 264 at hospitals, while 244 patients are in critical condition, of whom 35 are on life support.

He added that 105 more people have recovered during the past 24 hours, increasing the number of cured patients to 253,835, which shows the recovery rate to be 96.3 per cent.

The CM said that out of the 174 fresh cases of Sindh, 73 (or 42 per cent) have been reported in Karachi Division alone: 37 of the city’s new patients are from District East, 12 from District Malir, 10 from District South, nine from District Central, three from District Korangi and two from District West.

As for the other districts of the province, Ghotki has reported 10 new cases, Sujawal nine, Naushehroferoze and Thatta eight each, Tando Allahyar seven, Hyderabad, Kambar, Matiari and Jacobabad six each, Jamshoro five, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tando Muhammad Khan four each, and Larkana and Khairpur three each, he added.

The chief executive reiterated his appeal to the people of Sindh that they should comply with the standard operating procedures devised by his provincial government.
