Over 15,000 cops deployed in Multan district

MULTAN: Regional Police Office Tariq Masud Yasin has ordered stringent security measures for third phase of the local government elections and deployment of more than 15,000 policemen across the district.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the RPO no one was above the law and nobody would be allowed to display weapons or celebrate victory by taking out rallies. He said 15,589 cops would be deployed at 1,793 polling stations in the district. Five army companies and one Rangers company would be kept standby, he added. He warned police officials of stern action if they did not take action against violators of election code of conduct. He said 450 polling stations had been declared sensitive, including 105 high sensitive, in the district. He said a central control room had been established for quick response to any untoward incident. He said the police would remain impartial during the whole election process. City Police Officer Azhar Akram and SSP Range Crime Muhammad Salim were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan army and police jointly held flag march in the city. The flag march led by SSP Operations Atif Ikram started from the Police Lines and passed through MDA Chowk, Raza Abad, UBL Chowk, Suraj Miani, Pul Wasil, Chungi No 1, High Court, Khan Plaza, Emperial Cinema Chowk, Abbasi Shaheed Chowk, Multan Cantonment, Shangrila Chowk, Cantonment Chowk, Aziz Hotel Chowk, Double Phathak Chowk, Gala Godam, Chungi No 22, Wood Market, Chowk Shah Abbas, Gala Mandi Chowk, Mumtazabad Main Market, Allah Wasaya Chowk, Vehari Chowk, Pull Naubahar, Mehdia Complex, Bagh Hussain Chowk, Chowk Qazzafi, Gulistan Chowk, Jan Muhammad Chowk, Chowk Masoom Shah Road, Ali Chowk, Aam Khas Bagh, Daulat Gate, Khuni Burj, Pak Gate, Haram Gate, Shaheen Market, Bohar Gate, Chowk Ghantha Ghar, Water Works Road, Ali Chowk, Rashidabad Chowk, Chungi No 9, Tehsil Chowk, Gol Bagh Chowk, MCB Chowk, Bata Chowk and Haidria Masjid Chowk.
