19.5m tonnes wheat target for Punjab
From Our Correspondent
MULTAN: The Punjab government has fixed wheat production target at 19.5 million tonnes for the year 2015-2016, said agriculture officials.
The Punjab province produces 70pc of the country’s wheat. Pakistan had produced 25.478 million tonnes of wheat last year, including 19.281 million tonnes from Punjab.
The officials stressed the farmers to focus on removal of weeds from fields and others measures to ensure increase in per acre yield. Weeds play havoc to wheat crop and reduce 42 per cent of wheat production, they said, adding that weeds caused wastage of water, fertrilsers and other resources.
