According to the Bureau of Statistics, the number of roadside accidents in 2013 was 8885, while 4672 people died as a result of these accidents. Unfortunately, this rate is increasing day by day.
Road safety education is one of the most neglected fields in Pakistan. No systematic programme for road safety education exists today. The majority of the people are unaware of the traffic safety laws and regulations, while others are oblivious to them. The most effective way to create awareness about road safety is to make it a part of the educational curriculum at various schools and colleges. Furthermore, the government should organise an awareness campaign through social, electronic and print media.
