LAHORE
Lahore High Court Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Friday sought a detailed report from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) about construction of multi-storey buildings on Ravi bank.
The Public Interest Litigation Association had challenged the construction of high-rise plazas and also questioned government’s apathy towards “Bioremediation Project” that envisaged filtration of waste-water falling into the river.
Counsel of the association told the court that the Ravi had become a drain due to a lack of interest by authorities concerned. He said construction of multi-storey commercial buildings and “River Front”, a housing project of the LDA would cause grave air pollution in the city. He said the government had abandoned “Bioremediation Project” as it was busy in other development projects.
The court has adjourned the hearing by December 8 and directed the LDA to submit a report about the construction of buildings near the river.
