Security arrangements finalised for today’s Khanewal LG polls From Our Correspondent MULTAN: Regional Police Officer Tariq Masood Yasin has said that all security arrangements have been finalised for the local government elections scheduled to be held in Khanewal district today. Addressing a meeting to review security arrangements, he said that 55 polling stations had been declared sensitive in the district. He said that police would remain impartial in the whole process of local government polls. He said that Multan Sadr SP Atif Nazir had been appointed as in-charge of Khanewal circle where 276 polling stations had been established. Khanewal SP Investigations Naeemul Hassan Khan had been assigned 350 polling stations in Kabirwala circle, he added. Multan Cantonment SP Saifullah Khattak had been assigned 309 polling stations in Mian Channu circle, he said, adding that Multan City SP Khalid Rauf had been assigned 135 polling stations in Jehanian circle. RPO Tariq Masood Yasin said that an extensive meeting had been held with the LG candidates to ensure implementation on the code of conduct.
PCGA report shows decrease in cotton arrival From Our Correspondent MULTAN: Seed cotton (Phutti) more than 8,019,613 bales has reached ginneries across the country till November 15, showing a decrease of 23.17 per cent as compared to the corresponding period last year when the ginneries received 10,438,073 bales. According to the fortnightly report of the PCGA issued here on Wednesday, ginneries in Punjab recorded arrival of 4,653,857 bales while Sindh ginneries recorded arrival of 3,365,756 bales. Textile mills have bought 5,518,065 bales while exporters bought 337,955 bales. The total bales sold out so far were calculated at 5,861,220 bales. According to the district-wise cotton arrival: Multan received 104,443 bales (66.01 per cent decrease), Lodhran 73,343 bales (62.77 per cent decrease), Khanewal 3,337,938 bales (53.97 per cent decrease), Muzaffargarh 208,325 bales (42.42 per cent decrease), Dera Ghazi Khan 257,187 bales (25.3 per cent decrease), Rajanpur 374,971 bales (15.57 per cent decrease), Layyah 204,663 bales (23.15 per cent decrease), Vehari 287,513 bales (54.75 per cent decrease), Sahiwal 219,379 bales (51.87 per cent decrease), Pakpattan 64,601 bales (58.98 per cent decrease), Okara 21,365 bales (49.18 per cent decrease), Kasur 11,376 bales (39.33 per cent decrease), Toba Tek Singh 118,013 bales, Faisalabad 43,370 bales, Jhang 40,561 bales, Mianwali 212,373 bales, Bhakkar 65,037 bales, Sargodha 10,900 bales, Rahimyar Khan 832,696 bales, Bahawalpur 589,899 bales and Bahawalnagar 572,903 bales. According to the district-wise cotton arrival in Sindh: Hyderabad received 241,570 bales, Mirpur Khas 267,901 bales, Sangarh 1,272,579 bales, Nawabshah 289,644 bales, Naushero Feroze 223,915 bales, Jamshoro 130,783 bales, Badin 31,600 bales and Balochistan 54,591 bales. Total 996 ginning factories are operational in the country. Of them, 725 are in Punjab and 271 in Sindh.
