KARACHI: Tennis is set to become another sport after squash in Pakistan to attract foreign participation after a long time as Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) has allotted Pakistan two under-14 international events which take place in March next year.
“This will be announced soon as ATF has allotted us two international events,” said Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) secretary Khalid Rehmani.
He said the events would attract players from many Asian countries, including Nepal, India, Sri Lanka and the UAE.
He added that the PTF would provide free hospitality to the foreign players for the events which would be held in Islamabad in the first week of March next year,” he said. “The events have already fetched sponsorship,” he added.
Meanwhile, President Asian Tennis Federation Anil Khanna arrived in Lahore on Wednesday through Wagah Border for a three-day visit to meet PTF officials and discuss the tennis development programme in Asia and Pakistan.
“Anil has played a significant role in the promotion of tennis in Asia,” said Khalid. “He is also supporting PTF patron Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas as board member of ATF in the elections,” he added.
Anil was recently elected as ATP president unopposed.
He said Anil would stay in Lahore for two days and attend various meetings and receptions.
He would address a press conference along with PTF president Salim Saifullah Khan in Islamabad on Friday, he added.
