NBP, HBL record big wins

KARACHI: Fast bowlers Fahim Ashraf and Ahmed Jamal shared 15 wickets between them to enable National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) to demolish Rawalpindi by an innings and 79 runs on the third day of their four-day Group B game of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at Pindi Stadium on Wednesday, writes Alam Zeb Safi.
The victory enhanced NBP’s qualifying chances for the Super Eight stage as they lead the group with 33 points with three victories. They are to play three more games.
After NBP enforced follow-on, Rawalpindi were dismissed for 138 in their second innings with Naved Yasin scoring 25 with four fours. Faisal Mubashir (22) and Naved Malik (21) were the other main scorers.
Fahim picked 5-35, for match figures of 7-86. Ahmed Jamal captured 3-34, for a match tally of 8-60.
In response to NBP’s first innings total of 453, Rawalpindi had been bowled out for 236 after resuming at 188-7. Usman Saeed, who was batting on 48, scored 61 with eight fours. Ahmed Jamal grabbed 5-26, while Fahim captured 2-51.
In another show of Group B, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) crushed Lahore Whites by an innings and 56 runs at the LCCA Ground in Lahore. This was the first win of the season for HBL after rain marred a couple of their games.
After securing 242 runs lead, HBL dismissed Lahore Whites for 186 after they had started their second innings at 98-4.
Middle order batsman Mohammad Waheed top-scored with 68, which included 12 fours.
Shahid Afridi got 3-47. Abdul Rehman, Ammad Butt and Umar Gul claimed two wickets each. Gul, who had claimed 7-32 in the first innings, ended with impressive figures of 9-89.
Lahore Whites posted 89 in their first innings. In response HBL piled up 331.
At Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot, WAPDA pulled off their maiden win when they bulldozed FATA by an innings and four runs.
After being forced to follow-on, FATA perished for 186 in their second innings with Nasir Khan scoring 37 and Rahim Baz 33.
Waqas Maqsood was the hero for WAPDA

as the left-arm pacer captured 4-67, for a match tally of 7-113.
Zulfiqar Babar got 2-44, for match figures of 5-115.
In reply to WAPDA’s first innings total of 440, FATA resumed at 217-8 and perished for 250.
Rahimbaz Khan belted 33 with six fours and a six. Waqas captured 3-46. Babar claimed 3-71.
Here at National Stadium, Saud Shakeel (114*) struck his maiden century in the fourth game of his career to enable Karachi Whites to gain 128 runs lead against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL).
The left-hander, who struck 16 fours and a six, shared 93 for the sixth wicket with Saad Ali, who got run out after making 82 with 14 fours. Left-arm spinner Nayyer Abbas picked 4-95.
At stumps, KRL were 111-1 in their second innings. Zain Abbas (43*) and Mohammad Yasin (29*) were at the crease.
At Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) were 155-3 in their second innings against Lahore Blues after gaining 65 runs lead.
Misbah-ul-Haq (58*) and skipper Taufeeq Umar (41*) were at the crease. Aftab Asghar got 2-40.
In response to SNGPL’s first innings total of 445, Lahore Blues began the day at 243-5 and perished for 380.
Fahad-ul-Haq hammered 98 with 12 fours. He added 120 for the sixth wicket with Agha Salman, who belted 97 with 16 fours. International Asad Ali picked 5-93.
At Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad, United Bank Limited (UBL) set 454 runs target for Hyderabad. After gaining 62 runs lead they declared their second innings at 392-9. Sohaib Maqsood (83), Yasim Murtaza (83), Ehsan Adil (58*) and Hammad Azam (55) batted well.
Paceman Sajjad Hussain got 5-72.
Hyderabad were struggling at 54-2 in their second innings at stumps. They need 401 more runs to win.
Port Qasim Authority (PQA) were on the brink of a defeat against Peshawar at Arbab Niaz Stadium, Peshawar.
After conceding a huge 383 runs lead to Peshawar, they were 186-6 in their second innings at close.
They still need 197 more runs to avoid an innings defeat.
Test opener Khurram Manzoor hit 84 with 15 fours. Left-arm pacer Taj Wali and Mehran Ibrahim got two wickets each.
In response to PQA’s first innings score of 107, Peshawar declared their innings at 490-4 after resuming at 453-4. Zohaib Khan, who was batting on 138, scored 154 with 21 fours. He added 145 for the fifth wicket with Musaddiq Ahmed, who remained not out on 59.
At Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) secured 50 runs lead when after scoring 375 they dismissed Islamabad for 325.
Abid Ali hammered fine 131 off 287 balls which included 17 fours. Faizan Riaz made 58 with nine fours and a six. Test pacer Mohammad Amir claimed 3-52. Tabish Khan and Sohail Khan got two wickets each.
SSGC were five without loss in their second innings at close.
