HANGU: The local politicians and elders on Wednesday urged the provincial government to spend the gas royalty funds of the district on the development and gas projects in Hangu.
The demand was made during a meeting of the local politicians and elders. It had been convened by the district government to discuss the problems being faced by the residents of the district. Another purpose was to develop consensus over the spending of development funds and other uplift projects in the district.
Members’ district and tehsil councils, chairman and deputy chairman of 50 union councils and 12 neighborhood councils, representatives of all the political parties and local elders attended the meeting.
District Nazim Mufti Obaidullah chaired the meeting.
The participants called for use of Rs1 billion development funds on projects of common interest, curbing corruption in the government departments, ensuring standard development work and filling all the vacant posts in the district.
The office-bearers of government and opposition parties decided to put aside their political differences and work together for the development of the area.
District Nazim Mufti Obaidullah said that the district council would take the local political leadership and elders into confidence on the uplift work and spending of development funds.
