According to a media report, Pakistan has suffered losses to the tune of $20 billion due to climate change. According to a WWF report, we rank among the top 10 countries that are vulnerable to climate change, and by 2040, up to 10 percent of our agricultural output will be affected.
After the 18th Amendment, several subjects, including environment, health, food production and agriculture, had been devolved to provinces. However, the provinces have taken little interest in devising climate adaptation policies. There is an urgent need to set up climate change sections in the planning commission at the federal level and provincial planning and development departments.
