A 30-year-old man died under mysterious circumstances in the house of his in-laws in the Shalimar area on Sunday.
The victim identified as Khurram Shahzad had come to the house of his in-laws in Rashidpura where he died under mysterious circumstances. The victim’s family accused Khurram’s in-laws of poisoning him to death. Police shifted the body to morgue.
ACCIDENTS DAY: City Traffic police Sunday marked World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Accidents Victims by offering dua and lighting candles for those who have lost their lives in road accidents.The police also distributed awareness pamphlets regarding road safety measures at Faisal Chowk. CCPO Lahore, CTO Lahore, police officers and schoolgoing boys and girls participated in the ceremony. The City Traffic police are going to celebrate Traffic Week from November 16 to 22 to minimise the road accidents. Seminars, awareness walks and other functions will be held in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) on Sunday commemorated World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Accidents Victims in all districts of Punjab. The purpose of this day was to raise awareness about increasing number of road traffic accidents and community participation for prevention of these emergencies. In this regard, awareness walks, seminars and other ceremonies were organised to remember millions killed or injured in accidents and their families and communities, as well as to pay tributes to the dedicated emergency services, police and medical professionals who daily deal with the traumatic aftermath of road death and injury.
DG Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122), while quoting the statistics of accidents in Punjab, said that all District Emergency Services had rescued the victims of some 11,79,085 accidents in all districts of Punjab so far. He said that accidents were major cause of deaths in young breadwinners of the society, so they needed to make a commitment to reduce

this major cause of death, which was leading to a huge socio-economic burden on the economy of Pakistan.
He said that 1.3 million people died each year and over 50 million got disabled due to road traffic accidents and 90 percent of these deaths occurred in low income and middle income countries like Pakistan where only 48 percent of the world's registered vehicles existed. DG Rescue Punjab warned that if some concrete steps were not taken at this stage on priority basis, every family would be affected by road traffic accidents in Punjab within next few years. He emphasised that typical mindset needed to be changed through media.
