PO killed in ‘encounter’ From Our Correspondent BAHAWALPUR: A notorious proclaimed offender was killed during an ‘encounter’ with police near Lunda Phatak, Khanpur, Rahimyar Khan district, on Friday night. According to Khanpur City police SHO Shahanshah Khan Chandia, Bakhtiar Kobher, a resident of Dherki Sindh, who was wanted by RYK and Sindh police in several cases of heinous nature, was present in a den along with his accomplices when the police raided to arrest him. During exchange of fire between the police and the gangsters, Bakhtiar was killed as some bullets fired by his accomplices hit him, which caused his instant death, the SHO claimed. The dead body was sent to the THQ Hospital Khanpur for post-mortem, he added. DACOIT GANG BUSTED: Police have arrested five members of a dacoit gang and recovered nine stolen cars and Rs 2.5 million in cash from them. It was told in a news conference by DSP Sadar circle police Rao Muhammad Jamshed at Cantt police station on Saturday. The DSP said that Cantt police SHO Mohsin Sardar raided and arrested five gangsters including head of the inter-province Pehalwan car theft gang Muhammad Hussain of Kotla Musa Khan, Bahawalpur, Ehsan Ayub of Lucky Marwat, Mir Wali Shah of Mianwali, Muhammad Iqbal of Lucky Marwat and Abid Hussain of Mianwali. The DSP said that the police also recovered nine stolen cars and Rs 2.5 million in cash from them. He told that four members of the gang were still at large and efforts were underway to arrest them. Later, the DSP and the Cantt police SHO handed over the keys of stolen cars and money to their owners. PROTEST FOR NOT GETTING WAGES: The police on Saturday arrested dozens of unpaid labourers of a private textile mill for resisting to shift more than 2,000 bales from the mill to Karachi. The protesting labourers said that they were not getting their wages for the last many months and now they were stopping shifting of bales till paying of their outstanding wages. When contacted, DSP Sadar circle police Rao Jamshed said that no doubt labourers were unpaid but we had taken the step to implement the Sindh High Court orders, which was given in favour of the Karachi-based buyer. The labourers would be released soon as they had not committed any crime, he added.
