RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has expressed his deepest condolences on the sad demise of Lt-Col (R) Zafar Abbasi Ghazi who passed away at CMH Rawalpindi this week.
While expressing condolences to the bereaved family the COAS said that Lt Col Zafar Abbas Ghazi was a brave Pakistan Army officer who sacrificed both his hands and legs while serving at the worlds’ highest battlefront Siachen, says an ISPR press release on Thursday. It may be recalled that then a Pakistan Army captain, Zafar Abbasi Ghazi caught frostbite and lost both his hands and legs while serving in Siachen in 1987, but refused to retire and continued serving and became Lieutenant Colonel. The army officer’s selfless bravery was immortalised in the minds of Pakistanis when his role was played as Captain Kashif in the popular drama serial ‘Alpha Bravo Charlie’, an ISPR production based on the real-life story of Lt-Col Zafar Abbasi Ghazi.
