PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) declared on Wednesday that only cardiologists could be appointed as Associate Professor Cardiology Pakistan Postgraduate Medical Institute and declared void the promotion of Dr Farhad Abbas.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Musarrat Hilali declared the doctor’s promotion void.Dr Mehmoodul Hassan had filed a writ petition through his lawyer Ijaz Anwar in which he claimed that the promotion was illegal as the respondent doctor was not entitled to it.
During hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer submitted that Dr Farhad Abbas had not done the FCPS in Cardiology, which was necessary for the promotion, but even then the selection committee promoted him to Associate Professor Cardiology Pakistan Postgraduate Medical Institute.
The lawyer submitted that on the other hand the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) had given some illegal relaxations that if a doctor did FCPS in medicines or general surgery, he can also be promoted and appointed as associate professor in Cardiology, which was illegal.
On the other hand, the lawyer of Dr Farhad Abbas defended his promotion and stated that his was promoted under the law.
