ISLAMABAD: Former Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza on Monday said that she would bring documented proofs of pre poll rigging in November 19 Local Government elections in district Badin.
Speaking in the National Assembly after election of Sardar Ayaz as Speaker, Dr Fehmida Mirza whose family is not on good terms with the top leadership of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) said that she came to Islamabad despite sensitive situation in her district only to cast vote for Sardar Ayaz due to his services for the House and democratic system.
She said that she would also distribute copies of documented proofs of the pre poll rigging in LG polls in Badin among members of the House.Dr. Fahmida said she would also appeal to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take notice of reports of pre poll rigging in Badin. “The ECP needs to take required measures to avert rigging particularly in view of tragic killing of people in a Union Council of Khairpur district,” she said.
The former speaker said that the LG polls which are participated by small farmers andworkers was quite different from the general elections. “ We need to protect rights and lives of these people,” she said. She felt that strength of democracy should be seen in strong democratic institutions and not in strength or power of any individual.
