FAISALABAD: Rana Muhammad Atif, a former Toba police SHO and a national hockey player, was shot dead by unidentified motorcyclists at the Sant Singh Railway Crossing near Mansoorabad here on Monday.
Atif, a former national hockey team player who participated in a number of international hockey matches, was on his way by a car after imparting training to hockey players when the accused motorcyclists opened fire at him.
As a result, he was seriously injured and rushed to the Allied Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries. It is pertinent to mention here that Rana Atif was suspended five months ago when he was an SHO in Toba Tek Singh and now he was residing in Faisalabad. He was famous for police encounters. Meanwhile, CPO Afzal Ahmed Kasur has constituted a police team under the supervision of SP CIA Farooq Gondal and SP Madina Town Jameel Zafar to arrest the killers.
