FSC established

LAHORE: The Foundry Service Centre (FSC) set up by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) has enabled the foundry industry to produce non-conventional products through virtual casting; a facility, which was not available earlier in the country.
It was stated by Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry, chief executive officer of Smeda, while briefing on the activities of the FSC on Monday.
He said that the foundry business, being laborious and sandy job had lost interest of Europe and the industry; therefore, has been relocated from Europe to India and China.
Pakistan’s foundry industry could fill in the gap of the foundry products in Europe, but it remained unable to occupy the market share due to unavailability of the virtual casting facility that required a huge investment, he said, adding that the manual casting, being time consuming, expensive and substandard function, has left the local foundry industry completely unviable and uncompetitive in the international market.
Smeda, by conducting a random survey of 25 foundry units, has come to know that the foundry sector could compete with the world market by having a facility of virtual casting.
