LONDON: Former Chelsea manager Bobby Campbell has died at the age of 78, the Premier League club announced on Saturday.
Campbell managed the club from 1988 to 1991 and guided the team to promotion to the top flight in 1989, following their relegation the previous season.
Chelsea’s players will wear black armbands in tribute to Campbell in their game at Stoke City later on Saturday.
“Chelsea Football Club is greatly saddened to announce the passing of our former manager Bobby Campbell at the age of 78,” Chelsea said in a statement.
“All at the club send our deepest condolences to Bobby’s family and friends and our players will wear black armbands in his memory at today’s game at Stoke. “Chelsea was very close to Bobby Campbell’s heart and he will always be close to ours.”
