Prof Alqama’s remand extended From Our Correspondent MULTAN: The National Accountability Court on Thursday extended physical remand of Bahauddin Zakariya University former vice-chancellor Prof Khawaja Alqama for 10 days in a case of irregularities in setting up the BZU Lahore sub-campus. The court also sent BZU Lahore sub-campus owner Muneer Bhatti’s son Hamza Bhatti on physical remand. The NAB produced Prof Alqama in the court on completion of seven-day remand and requested for extension in remand, which the judge granted. However, the VC’s counsel objected on granting more remand without any ground. The BZU senior academicians, deans, ex-VC’s younger brother Khawaja Salman, friends and family members were present outside the court. A special NAB team had arrested Prof Alqama from his residence on October 29 and the accountability court had granted his seven-day physical remand on the same day. He was arrested on the charge of establishing illegal BZU Lahore sub-campus in violation of the Public-Private Partnership Act 2012. Some days ago, hundreds of BZU Lahore sub-campus students observed strike in Lahore. Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood held talks with the students and assured them of resolving the issue.
