A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Thursday granted pre-arrest bail to two initial owners of Bahauddin Zakriya University’s Lahore campus and directed them to join investigation of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Counsel of Aqeel Tufail and Gulistan Ahmad stated in the petition that his clients were the first owners of the campus in question. He said they had established a company “West Continental Group” and signed a written agreement with the BZU for setting up its campus in Lahore.
The counsel said later the agreement was transferred to Mazahar Iqbal and Tahir Iqbal who further transferred the agreement to third party. He said the petitioners had no role in establishing the campus and looting students on account of admission fees. He said the NAB started investigation against the petitioners and raids were being conducted for their arrest. The counsel asked the court to grant pre-arrest bail to his clients. The bench headed by Justice Mahmood Maqbool Bajwa allowed the pre-arrest bail to the petitioners with direction to join the investigation of the case.
