This refers to the news report, ‘Quaid-e-Azam was justified in demanding Pakistan’ (October 20). The widespread persecution of minorities in India, under the guise of secular democracy, has vindicated Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal, who prudently anticipated the potential vulnerability of minorities under Westminster-style democracy in India. Obviously, these vulnerabilities are further exacerbated when the majority dreams of Ram Raj, vows to undo all the good done by past Indian Muslim leaders and tries to annihilate the cultural and religious identities of other minorities. Migrant crisis The era of the 1960s transformed Europe and America from monolithic and homogeneous societies, to multicultural ones, when they welcomed third-world immigrants into their borders. However, after a massive change of demographics in these countries in the years that followed, hatred and prejudice between the immigrant and settled communities escalated. The right wing in these countries claims that immigrants are a burden while the leftists are sympathetic towards them. The latter also claim that Europe should feel responsible for the poverty of the third world, since they ruled much of the third world during the colonial era. Both the right wing and left wing are on extreme positions regarding this matter. The solution doesn’t lie in inviting more immigrants into the country, or deporting existing immigrants. To end this crisis, governments need to be sincere regarding this issue, as it is their collective responsibility to resolve these issues. Third world countries cannot solely blame western countries for their problems. They have as much power to bring themselves out of their economic and political problem if they choose to do so. Otherwise, the immigration crisis will escalate into a global problem. Bashaam Bachani Hyderabad
