KARACHI: Ali Mujtaba Bukhari, Kashif Asif, Waqas Mehboob and Raees Khan advanced to the qualifying round of the $25,000 President Gold Cup International Squash Tournament in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The tournament started with its pre-qualifying round in which 16 local players participated.
In the morning session, Sadam-ul-Haq beat Mubashir Khan by 11-4, 11-3, 11-7 in 12 minutes, while Ali Bukhari thrashed Moin Rauf by 11-5, 11-2, 11-1 in 17 minutes. Abdul Malik won against Abdul Basit by 11-6, 14-12, 11-3 in 26 minutes, and Kashif Asif smashed Hamza Bhatti by 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 in 24 minutes.
Mansoor Zaman defeated Zeeshan Khan by 12-10, 6-11, 15-13, 11-8 in 38 minutes; Waqas Mehboob beat Salman Hashmi by 10-12, 11-7, 11-5, 11-2 in 29 minutes; Raees Khan thrashed Yasir Sarwar by 11-3, 11-6, 11-6 in 16 minutes; and Mehran Javed won against Salman Zeb by 11-3, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9 in 42 minutes.
In the evening session, Ali Bukhari overpowered Sadam Ul Haq by 13-11, 8-11, 11-8, 14-12 in 52 minutes; Kashif Asif beat Abdul Malik by 11-8, 11-3, 11-8 in 31 minutes; Waqas Mehboob smashed Mansoor Zaman by 11-3, 11-3, 5-0 (retired) in 11 minutes; and Raees Khan defeated Mehran Javed by 11-6, 11-8, 6-11, 11-6 in 39 minutes.
