Ours is a country where fancy projects like the metro-bus are given more importance than basic necessities of life. Our rulers set development priorities in a way that ultimately benefits their respective political parties. The federal government’s announcement to fund the Green Bus project in Karachi is a case in point. It conveniently forget to address real issues facing the people of Karachi, like water shortage, law and order, etc, because these issues come without glamour and fanfare and would hardly increase the popularity of the PML-N in Sindh immediately.
Our rulers should know that equitable distribution of resources is pivotal to the progress of the country. The construction of dams, for example, is far more important. The moment we learn to enlist our priorities the benefits of development will start to trickle down to the people of this country.
