Provincial Minister for Labour and HR Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said the Punjab government has launched an integrated project at a cost of Rs. 134.16 million for capacity development of industry to promote the compliance with labour standards, increase industrial production and strengthen tripartite relations among employee, employer and government institution.
He said this while presiding over a meeting to review the pace of progress on the project. Director General Labour Muhammad Salim Hussain, Project Director Arshad Mahmood, Director Labour Syed Hasnaat Javed, Director CIWCE Tahir Manzoor and Dr. Javed Gill attended the meeting.
Project Director Arshad Mahmood informed the meeting that training is being imparted to technical staff and officers including labour officers for their capacity building with a view to ensure implementation on labour laws and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in the industrial and commercial units. He told the media that in-house training sessions are being carried out for the employees of the industry including managers, supervisors, clerical and other management staff to create awareness regarding labour laws and OSH. Arshad Mahmood told the meeting that internationally accredited courses on OSH are being started very soon and trainers of these courses would further train their subordinates as master trainers. He said that on-site training sessions for labourers and industrial workers are being carried out to make them aware of their rights and hazards at their workplace.
Arshad Mahmood informed the meeting that Workplace Risk Assessment of hazards in industrial units are being carried out. He said that two vehicles as Mobile Lab on OSH and Mobile Audio Visual Aid Unit have been procured to create awareness regarding labour laws and testing purposes. The Labour Department has applied for licence to establish an FM Radio Channel on Labour Rights as well, he concluded. Minister Labour Raja Ashfaq Sarwar directed the concerned officers to complete this important project for the welfare of laborers and industrial community.
