PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday extended interim bail to Abdul Wali Khan University Vice-Chancellor Dr Ihsan Ali in corruption cases. A division bench of Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel and Justice Musarrat Hilali extended the interim bail up to November 5.The bench also extended interim bail to other suspects. They included former vice-chancellor of Hazara University Syed Sakhawat Shah and former registrar of the same university, Muqarrab Shah. The petitioners lawyers told the court that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested their clients on charges of registering Northern Institute of Medical Sciences without following proper procedures. They said their clients were highly qualified educationists and had played a role in promoting education in the province. The lawyers said the NAB did not ask for the physical custody of our clients on the very first day of their arrest. The counsels pointed out that there was no need to keep the clients behind bars when the NAB had admitted to have completed the investigation. The court sought comments from the NAB chairman before the next hearing. It had granted interim bail to all the suspects on September 22 in the corruption case.
