KARACHI: Pakistan got 28th position in the World Junior Judo Championships in which 82 countries showed their worth in Abu Dhabi from October 22 to 26.
“We had fielded Japan-based Wajahat Sarwar, Nadeem Akram and Iftikhar Ahmed. The latter two performed very well,” Pakistan Judo Federation’s (PJF) secretary Masood Ahmed told ‘The News’ from the UAE on Monday.
“Before this event our judokas used to field in such major events and lose at the first hurdle. But these youngsters with their performance in the UAE showed that we are progressing in the sport,” said Masood.
Iftikhar (-55Kg) lost his second bout. Nadeem Akram (-73Kg) beat Mc Fall Joshua of Bahamas before going down against Youth Olympics silver medallist Kirakozashvili Tamazi of Georgia in his second fight. Wajahat (-100kg) went down in his first bout against World No 16 Trillo Valeiro of Spain.
