CHITRAL: The students of various colleges took out a rally to demand setting up of a full-fledged university in the district.
They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. The students reached the Ataliq Chowk after passing through various routes.
Pir Karam Ilahi, Niaz A Niazi, Maqsoodur Rehman and others were leading the rally.
The speakers criticised the local political leadership for the failure to get approved a full-fledged university for the far-off district.
They demanded the government to approve and set up a university in the landlocked district to provide an opportunity to the students of the mountainous district to get higher education at their doorstep.
Meanwhile, a district councillor belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Abdul Latif said that the Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had announced setting up a university in Chitral. He claimed the chief minister had made the announcement during his visit to the district on July 22 last. “The land for the establishment of the university is being acquired,” he added.
The councilor said that provoking the students and bringing them on roads for political point-scoring was wrong and unjustified.
