Health, education facilities’ provision govt’s top priority: Commissioner From Our Correspondent GUJRANWALA: Gujranwala Commissioner Shamail Ahmad Khawaja Thursday said provision of health and education facilities to the people was the top priority of the government. Presiding over a video link conference with all DCOs of the division, Shamail said asked officers concerned to take concrete measures to resolve problems faced by people in hospitals. He directed the DCOs to survey and identify dangerous buildings of educational institutions in the division for their early repair. The commissioner said necessary medical machinery may be purchased as soon as possible. Gujranwala DCO Amir Jaan giving a brief said there were 205 school buildings which were declared dangerous from which 74 would be reconstructed in the present budget. DCO Hafizabad Muhammad Usman said 92 school buildings were declared dangerous out of which 41 were being repaired and a funds of Rs 55.991 million has also been released for the purpose. DCO Sialkot Dr Asif Tufail said according to a survey there were 50 school buildings declared dangerous and repair work of these buildings was being continued with allocation of Rs.319.950 million. DCO Gujrat Liaqat Ali said the amount has been allocated for the repair work of 8 dangerous buildings of educational institutions. Mandi Bahaud Din DCO said there were 78 educational institution buildings that were declared dangerous for which RS 136.285 million were released by the government. The commissioner said it is high time that we should prioritize these schools so that our children can have a safe and sound learning environment. RS 50.85M FOR TECH EDUCATION: Chairman district Zakat Committee Mian Amjad Mehmood Thursday distributed Rs. 50.85 million cheques to provide medical facilities and promotion of technical education in the division. A ceremony in this regard was held at district Zakat office which was presided by Mian Amjad Mehmood while deputy divisional administrator of Zakat Mian Abdul Hameed was the chief guest, heads of district and tehsil hospitals and vocational institutions also participated. Mian Amjad Mehmood issued Rs 50.3 million cheques to the heads of vocational institutes located in Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Baha ud din and Hafizabad, while district and Tehsil hospital administrations were given Rs 3.1 million and cheque amounting to Rs 2 million was issued to Sughra Shafi hospital Narowal. LOCALS SNATCHED CASH, VALUABLES: Robbers deprived locals of cash, gold ornaments, vehicles and cellphones in various incidents on Thursday. On Nowshera road three robbers entered the house of Aman Ullah and looted Rs 50,000, gold ornaments and three cell phones. At Wahndo two gunmen snatched Rs 16, 000 and a cellphone from Abdul Rehman. On Jinnah road Ghulam Rasul was deprived of Rs 9,000 and a gold ring. In Wazirabad dacoits snatched a new motorcycle from Hassan. At Dhulley locality robbers took away a new motorcycle of Maqsood. In Khiali dacoits snatched motorcycle No LEF-9451 from Mukkaram. Thieves took away car of Muhammad Ali from main bazaar Kamoki. Thieves stole a motorcycle of Adil in civil lines area. Dacoits took away new motorcycle of Hamid from Takbeer road. Farooq was deprived of his new motorcycle in the Baghbanpura locality. Motorcycle No GAN-8925 of Usman was lifted from Jinnah road. Thieves lifted new motorcycle of Ejaz from cantt area, and from Dhulley locality thieves took away a new motorcycle of Nouman. DEATH SENTENCE: Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Altaf Thursday awarded death sentence and a fine to a murder convict. Convict Pervez Anwar had killed Laeeq Umer in 2012 and cantt police registered a case.
