MANSEHRA: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has arrested a tehsil councillor in a case pertaining to illegal transport of timber to big markets in the country.
“We have arrested the chairman of the joint forest management committee. The arrested person in connivance with the forest officers transported timber worth over Rs20 million to markets on fake documents,” stated Sohail Ahmad, the circle in-charge of ACE.
He said that Khalid Qureshi, also a tehsil councillor of Mansehra, was wanted in two cases of timber smuggling.The official said that Qureshi, with the help of sub-divisional forest officers Mohammad Ayub and Mohammad Ali and forester Ahmad Nawaz, cut timber from the Mundachicha forests and later transported it to big markets on fake timber permits.
