MANSEHRA: Lawyers on Saturday boycotted proceedings in protest against a recent clash between two rival groups on the premises of a court as they termed the incident a security lapse.
“We will never tolerate such clashes on the court premises as we cannot put the lives of lawyers and litigants in danger. The police should review their security arrangements here,” Hafiz Naseem, president of Mansehra District Bar Association told reporters here.
Over a dozen people were injured in the clash between two rival groups after hearing of a case related to the Local Government Elections at a court on Friday.
People who had come to appear in their cases retuned without any proceedings because of the lawyers’ strike.
The lawyers also held a meeting and sought prompt security measures and ban on the entry of those accompanying litigants.
He said the district bar association had sought complete ban on the entry of outsiders and those accompanying the litigants.
Meanwhile, the district and sessions judge, Mansehra, has ordered an inquiry into the recent clash.
