Wives of foreign diplomats based in Pakistan held a charity show on Wednesday here at the Chinese Embassy.
The event was marked as ‘China Day’ to introduce history of Chinese culture and its healthy traditions and to promote the same among the Pakistani and foreign-residents.
It was arranged by the International Foreign women’s Association (IFWA). Wife of Chinese ambassador Bao Jiqing availed the opportunity to introduce Chinese culture to the participants. She gave presentation on traditional Chinese dress, paper-cutting, dumpling-making, Chinese tea-making, Chinese medicine, Chinese poem and music.
The purpose of the function was to help the charity of IFWA. Various stalls of handicrafts and food items were set up on the occasion. Proceeds from the sale will go to a deserving school in suburb of Islamabad, said wife of ambassador of Bosnia & Herzegovina Jasmina Makarervie who is also vice President of IFWA.
The participants included member National Assembly Syeda Zahra Wadood Fatemie who termed the show as highly fascinating that she said provided an opportunity to understand the diversity and beauty of Chinese culture. This, she said could serve as strong source to promote love and understanding at people-to-people level. “We hold China in high esteem due to its overwhelming role in socio-economic development of Pakistan,” she said adding Pakistan and China could work together in promoting their culture values.
Madam Bao Jiqing while speaking on the occasion said that the event had special significance since it was the part of China-Pakistan consistent efforts to further consolidate their deep-rooted friendship at the gross-root level through culture exchanges.
Other such events will also be arranged soon. China, she said is going to set up its culture Centre to focus on culture activities of bilateral interest.
