LONDON: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan’s former brother-in-law Zac Goldsmith has said that in his opinion Imran Khan is the “answer to Pakistan’s problems”. In an exclusive interview with Geo News here, Zac Goldsmith said that in his opinion Pakistan needs “honest and strong leader like Imran Khan” to deal with its problems and there is no one better than the former cricket star who now heads the main opposition party in Pakistan. Zac Goldmsith, the Conservative MP for Richmond who has been elected as the Conservative candidate for Mayor of London and will face off Labour candidate Sadiq Khan MP, showered praise on the PTI leader and said that his former brother-in-law is “popular everywhere in the world and not just in Pakistan”. Zac added: “I respect Imran Khan more than probably any other politician in this world. He is incorruptible, he can’t be bought and he is the leader that any country would be lucky to have. I wish to see him achieving his ambition of leading Pakistan. I know that’s possible and he the best interests of Pakistan in his heart.” When asked if he would like Imran Khan to help him in his campaign for the London mayor office, Zac Goldsmith laughed off and said that he “wouldn’t want to risk his own campaign”. He remarked: “We all need him, you and I need him, but we need him to win and resolve problems of Pakistan. We all know that Pakistan has more potential than almost any other country in the world but it has been held back by corruption unfortunately. Imran Khan is the answer in my opinion.” Zac Goldsmith said that he was emotionally close to Pakistan and valued the country greatly. “Emotionally I am close to Pakistan. Half my family are Pakistanis, I am close to Pakistan and that’s because of Imran Khan”. Zac Goldmsith hoped that he will win next year’s important elections and that all communities will vote for his agenda of change and progress in London. “There is a big Pakistani community in London and they are very important part but I believe that a correct political approach is the one which unites all and doesn’t divide, that seeks to unite the capital. Pakistani community are absolutely part of the fabric of London, it’s not a separate community, it’s an integrated part of the London community. Pakistanis contribute disproportionately to the economy, enterprise and culture of London. I would not want to do or say anything that looks divisive. When you speak to London, you speak to Pakistani community, they are so important.” Zac Goldsmith said that there is a particular problem with Muslims in London in terms of hate crimes. He regretted that numbers of these attacks have increased very dramatically in the last few months. He resolved that if elected London mayor, he will do everything to tackle crimes of all kinds. He said he will use his powers to ensure that there is “zero tolerance” within the police “and that’s something in the control of the mayor of London”.
