PESHAWAR: A severe windstorm and rain hit the provincial capital and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa early Wednesday.Several areas in the provincial capital witnessed power breakdown for hours.
In Nowshera, the torrential rains damaged several houses and destroyed standing crops in various areas.Several houses were destroyed in Nawan Killay, Amangarh, Kheshgi Mera, Nowshera Kalan, Nowshera Cantonment and Manki Road. Scores of villagers some of them identified as Riaz, Wahab Gul, Faqir, Aurangzeb were injured when their houses collapsed.
The power supply to cantonment and other areas was disconnected as the pylons supplying electricity to these areas from Amangarh were uprooted.The torrential rain also destroyed standing crops in the district. The farmers asked the government to declare the district calamity-hit and provide compensation to them.The electricity was not yet restored to these areas which had created drinking water shortage.
LAKKI MARWAT: Lightening killed 26 goats in a remote Paharkhelwala village while rain coupled with hailstorm lashed parts of the district.The sky was covered with thundering clouds and light cold breeze was blowing since morning.
At noontide it started raining cats and dogs in several parts of the district. According to reports reaching from different localities, the torrential rains coupled with hailstorm waterlogged many localities.
