Signal-free hassle

Ever since four main arteries of Karachi have been made signal free the ratio of fatal accidents has increased. Signal-free roads are no solution to our traffic problems. This is an attempt to avoid responsibility by the traffic police at the extra cost of fuel which is used to find a U-turn.
In Islamabad, most signals are either dead or have been deliberately made non-functional to provide a justification for signal-free corridors. In the past, all signals and streetlights were functional but now one finds total blackout on main roads due to the apathy of the CDA. Heavy concrete blocks have been placed on most intersections. Instead of making arteries signal free, the authorities concerned should install a DSS (decision support system) along with the traffic lights and speed cameras.
