KARACHI: Leader of Pakistan Peoples Party and former Union Council Nazim of Hyderabad district approached the chief justices of Supreme Court, Sindh High Court, Rangers authorities and the Sindh home secretary for protection of his and members of his family’s lives allegedly in danger from Sindh provincial minister Jam Khan Shoro and Sindh police authorities.
In a written application to the chief justice of Pakistan, the chief justice of Sindh High Court and Director General (DG) Sindh Rangers, copy available with The News, former Nazim of Union Council Qasimabad, Hyderabad, Mehboob Abro quoting Articles 4, 10, 10 A, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 19 of the Constitution of Pakistan — which guaranteed the security of life, freedom of movement, freedom of association and dignity of man — requested the authorities that due to his political association with Peoples Party Dr Zulfiqar Mirza group, the Sindh ruling party elites wanted to harm him and his family and after his association with Dr Mirza 15 plus criminal cases of extortion, police encounter, attempt to murder, kidnapping for ransom and others were registered against him. He further said despite filing of a petition in Sindh High Court, police authorities are not ready to provide the list of all cases registered against him.
Mr Abro in his application blamed provincial minister Jam Khan Shoro, SSP Khalid Mustafa Korai, DSP Aslam Langah and others for kidnapping his son Sarmad, 20, student of MBA, looting of valuables from his home, seizing of five vehicles and encroaching upon his cable business. He requested the authorities to provide justice to him and members of his family. He demanded an impartial inquiry of all matters through any federal organization.
Talking to The News former Nazim Mehboob Abro said, “after my association with Dr Mirza at least 15 plus fake cases have been registered against him by Hyderabad, Badin and Karachi police on the instigation of a provincial minister and police high-ups.
There was not a single case pending against me before 2013, as I joined Dr Mirza and started raising voice against corruption and illegalities of my own ruling party due to my principled stand, fake cases were registered against me”.
Mr Abro said that on May 19, 2015 a police party led by DSP Hyderabad Aslam Langah entered his home and after looting valuables, cash and seizing five vehicles kidnapped his son Sarmad.
He said after filing a constitutional petition in Sindh High Court Sarmad was got released from the illegal detention of Hyderabad police after the passage of 38 days.
Mr Abro showing his mistrust in the Sindh provincial government demanded a fair and impartial inquiry into all matters through any federal organization.
DSP Aslam Langah of Hyderabad police told The News that all the allegations leveled by Mehboob Abro were baseless and false. Hyderabad police, he said, could not imagine getting involved in any illegal activity.
“Abro is hardened criminal and notorious extortionist of Hyderabad and he is wanted to Hyderabad police in some 80 plus criminal cases,” added DSP Langah.
Sindh Provincial Minister Jam Khan Shoro said that all the claims of Mehboob Abro are fake. Mr Shoro said, “How is it possible in these days, when media and judiciary are independent, to register fake cases against any person”.
Minister Shoro refused to further comment on the said matter.
DSP Langah concluded that he did not have any personal grudge or enmity with Mehboob Abro and only due to latter’s criminal activities Hyderabad police wanted to arrest him.
He said to avoid his arrest, Mehboob Abro had submitted a false application against police.
Mazhar Shani, PRO to SSP Hyderabad, after listening to the query of this reporter suggested to contact SP headquarter Rashid Hidayat but despite calling and sending text messages SP Hidayat avoided response.
