‘Strict security arrangements adopted for NA-144 by-polls’

OKARA: DPO Faisal Rana has said that strict security arrangements have been taken to maintain law and order during by-polls in the constituency of NA-144 Okara-2.
Addressing a press conference here, the DPO said that 3,200 policemen had been deputed to perform security duty at 210 polling stations of the constituency, adding that 25 polling stations had been declared sensitive. He said that 2,000 army and 200 Rangers personnel had been deputed to perform security duty at the polling stations. District Returning Officer Javed Iqbal Khattak told that total voters in the constituency were 316,310 including 142,419 female voters.
POST-MORTEM CONDUCTED: The post-mortem of Local Government polls candidate Malik Aslam and his two supporters was conducted at the THQ Hospital, Depalpur, on Saturday.
Malik Aslam, a UC chairmanship candidate from Qadirabad, and his two supporters, Muhammad Amin and Azmat, were shot dead on Thursday night. Police had registered a murder case against Mazhar Bashir, Tanveer Ahmad and their four unknown accomplices. Malik Aslam was a supporter of PPP Punjab president Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo and Aslam was campaigning for UC chairmanship as the PPP candidate. Later, the bodies were handed over to the families of the victims.
