NAWABSHAH: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived here on a two-day visit. He was received at the airport by party leaders.
A heavy contingent of police was deployed on the route from the airport to the Zardari House.
Sources said that he was presented a list of names from which to select the candidates for chairmanship of the district council and town committees.
It is expected that the list would be finalised by Saturday.
Sources said that Khan Muhammad Dahri, who has recently joined the PPP, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, MNA, and a former MPA, Sardar Jam Tamachi, were in the run for the chairmanship of the district council.
Sources said that a very tough contest was likely for the nomination for the chairmanship of the town committees, and a tug of war seemed to be emerging in the ranks of the party cadre vis-à-vis who gets the nomination for the posts.
Sources said that Bilawal would attempt to pacify the tense atmosphere which the race for the slots of the chairmanship of the district council and town committees has created.
Meanwhile, Sindh Minister Syed Nasir Shah, while briefing the media outside the Zardari House, said that the PPP would sweep the local bodies elections.
On the NAB actions, the minister said that an impression was being created that only the PPP had been involved in corruption. He said that “the PPP should not be targeted, but all the corrupt elements existing anywhere must be taken to task”. The minister said that NAB should also investigate into the metro bus, Nandipur and LNG projects.
He said that the PPP did not stand with the corrupt elements, and it demanded indiscriminate action against such elements.
