KARACHI: A journalist was gunned down by some armed persons.
Zulfiqar Ali Mandrani was a resident of Dodapur, a small town in Jacobabad district. He was working for daily Koshish,
Mandrani received three bullets. He was transferred to Lakana Civil Hospital in critical condition but he succumbed to his injuries. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jacobabad Bashir Ahmed Brohi termed the murder of journalist killing and said the journalist was killed by Dayo tribesmen. He said two accused Nazeer Ahmed Dayo and Riaz Ahmed Dayo, who were allegedly involved in the murder, had been arrested. Raheem Bux, father of the murdered journalist, rejected the claim of SSP and told media that his son was killed in a conspiracy hatched by some influential persons of the area who were annoyed due to reporting of his son.
Editor daily Koshish Naimat Khuhro by showing his disappointment upon the role of area Police questioned how SSP Jacobabad reached the conclusion within minutes of the murder. Mr. Khuhro demanded an impartial investigation into the murder. On the other hand, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Sindh Journalists Council (SJC) and Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) have also demanded of impartial investigation.
