Punjab Chief Secretary Khizar Hayyat Gondal has directed all divisional commissioners to ensure foolproof security arrangements for Muharram and take all possible steps for maintaining peace during the holy month.
He was chairing commissioners’ conference at Civil Secretariat on Monday. Punjab IG, secretaries of different departments including Home, Education, Local Government, Mines and Services, Chairman, PITB, CCPO, Lahore, Commissioners, RPOs and others were present.
Security for Muharram, local government elections, steps for eradication of dengue and polio, survey of cotton and rice crops and matters relating to education and health sectors came under discussion during the conference. Addressing the meeting, the chief secretary said that the protection of life and property of people is the top priority of the government.
He directed that special measures be taken for security of mosques, Imambargahs and other sensitive places.
