KARACHI: Awais Ali Khan moved in the second preliminary round in men’s light heavyweight boxing at the 6th CISM Military World Games in Mungyeong, Korea, on Sunday.
He defeated Ouladzimir Lanski of France 3-0 in 81 kg category in the first preliminary round.
His score was 30-27, 30-27, 30-27. He will now face Abu Lubdeha of Germany in the second preliminary round.
However, Nisar Mohammad lost 0-3 to Aleksandrov Aleksandar Emilov of Bulgaria in the first preliminary round in men’s fly (52kg) category. His score was 28-29, 28-29, 27-30.
In the sailing event, Mohammad Akram (skipper) and Khalid Hussain (crew) scored 21 points after three races, claiming seventh position among 20 nations. They scored seven points in the first race, eight in the second and six in the third in the 2000-open two person dinghy category.
In track and field event, Liaquat Ali failed to impress as he recorded 10.67 (0.21) seconds in men’s 100 metre race. He stood 18th out of 42 competitors. He stood fifth in his heat, failing to qualify for the semi-finals.
It is to be noted that 32 athletes from all three armed forces, majority from the Army, are participating in these games.
They are participating in boxing, golf, taekwondo, sailing, wrestling, athletics, and archery.
Pakistan managed just one bronze medal in the 2011 edition of Military World Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The Military World Games are a multi-sports event organised every four years, one year before the year the Olympic Games are held.
