Shamail for foolproof security during Muharram

GUJRANWALA: Commissioner Shamail Ahmed Khawaja said foolproof security would be ensured in the division during Muharram.
Addressing a video link conference with all DCOs of the division to review the security arrangements for Muharram, Shamail said it was the responsibility of district administration to ensure law and order and to provide all facilities to citizens.
He said all DCOs should adopt a strategy to this effect in consultation with all stakeholders. Gujranwala DCO Amir Jan, Additional Commissioner Rana Abdul Shakoor and relevant heads of departments were also present in the moot. The commissioner urged the officers to play a proactive role in creating religious harmony and brotherhood to defeat designs of anti-peace elements. He directed all DDOs to coordinate with all departments and ensure repair of roads, cleaning, lighting and all other facilities before commencement of Muharram. He directed the DCOs to assure the provision of medical facilities to mourners during the processions.
GCCI MEETING: Annual General Body meeting of Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) was held on Wednesday in which newly elected office-bearers including Chaudhry Sami Ullah, Iqbal Shaheen and Sheikh Abdul Rauf assumed the charge.
They were elected unopposed president, senior vice-president and vice-president respectively of the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday. The newly-elected office-bearers pledged to work for the cause of business community. They said that they would give priority to the issues like shortage of energy, with-holding tax on banks transactions, high cost of doing business and shortage of skilled labour. They paid rich tributes to former office bearers for discharging duties loyally to the Gujranwala Chamber. Former president chamber of commerce Khawaja Khalid Hassan presented the annual report which was passed by the members of executive body.
MPA MURDER CASE: An Anti-Terrorism Court No-1 judge continued hearing of MPA Rana Shamshad murder case on Wednesday. Accused Abu Bakar and Naveed were brought in the court.
ATC Judge Imtiaz Ahmed adjourned the hearing until October 7th for not completion of challan and directed the police to produce complete challan on the next hearing positively.
MAN DIES: A man died and two others sustained injuries in a road accident. A Faisalabad-bound bus collided with a car near Othian check post, leaving Ghulam Rabbani, 60, dead and Iqbal, 55, and Sakeena, 50.
