The Sindh Rangers on Sunday claimed to have raided a gutka factory operating in District Central and seized thousands of kilograms of raw material for the production of gutka.
A spokesman for the paramilitary force said they had received information from a credible source that a group was operating a factory of gutka in District Central with the connivance of Lyari gangsters.
Responding to the information, the Rangers troops conducted a successful raid in the Golimaar area and arrested two of the factory operators identified as Amjad Hussain Machatee and Sajid Ahmed. The paramilitary force also seized a large quantity of gutka, its raw material, including one thousand kilograms of betel nuts, and equipment.
The suspects were shifted to the Rangers headquarters. During the investigations, it was found that they were associated with the Lyari gang war and were preparing gutka in bulk with the support of notorious gangsters Sajid, alias Golimar, and Aga Zikri.
The suspects allegedly provided extortion in millions to the two gangsters. The Rangers also found hidden arms and ammunition based on the information provided by the suspects, said the spokesperson.
The arrested men were later handed over to the police for the initiation of legal proceedings. Further investigations are under way.
