Agriculture package

Recently, Nawaz Sharif announced a relief package of Rs340 billion for farmers. This is a good start. The package will help enhance crop yield, in addition to mitigating the suffering of the farmers’ community in obtaining concessionary loans.
Another issue that is addressed in the package is crop insurance. This is timely because natural calamities pose a constant threat to crops. The insurance cover will give farmers hope that in case of a calamity they will get their returns in terms of monetary help.
