Missing in Mina

This refers to the editorial, ‘Missing in Mina’ (September 28). The editorial has correctly pointed out the incompetence of our embassy and the directorate general of Haj in Saudi Arabia.
However, part of the reason for their inefficiency is that at the initial stages the Saudis totally denied them access to the site of the tragedy at Mina and later to morgues and hospitals where the dead and injured were kept. The Saudi authorities should hold an independent inquiry into the incident.
