ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) Asad Qaisar and the members of his family have been tested positive for COVID-19. The Speaker on his twitter said that he had isolated himself to the Speaker House after he was tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday. Later talking to television channel, Asad Qaisar said his son and daughter who are college students have also been tested positive and they also quarantined themselves at home.
He said he has been feeling temperature for the last two to three days and his test was taken which was negative. "My test was taken again today which is positive," he said, adding he was now feeling much better.
The Speaker prayed to Almighty Allah to keep people safe. He asked people to follow safety measures. Asad Qaisar said he met interpreter of the National Assembly he now came to know is hospitalised.
The sources said the persons who met the Speaker in the last few days would also be tested for COVID-19. Meanwhile, the National Assembly Secretariat on Thursday issued a notification to extend closure of offices of the secretariat till May 9. However, some limited staff would attend offices in administration, Public Accounts Committee, standing committees and international relations wings.
