FAISALABAD: Dozens of residents of Khayaban Colony No-1 attacked a police party of Madina Town police and injured two cops on Thursday.
Men and women allegedly attacked the police team when the police raided a house to arres Azam and Tahir Mehmood, who were nominated in a case.
Reportedly, accused M Azam and Tahir Mehmood called their supporters when police came and their supporters attacked the cops and injured an ASI and a cop. The police have registered a case against the attackers.
DC visits superstore: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ali visited a superstore on Narwala Road.
During the visit the DC directed police to arrest two shopkeepers who were without face masks and overcharging the customers.
The DC checked availability of pulses, sugar and other commodities at the store. The DC also inspected anti-coronavirus measurements at the store.
The DC asked the AC city to ensure display of official rate lists at prominent places of shops.
Meanwhile, the DC visited the Ehsaas cash distribution centre established at Govt Community Girls Higher Secondary School Ghulam Muhammad Abad. MPA Mian Khayal Kastro and AC City Syed Ayub Bukhati were also along with him. The DC reviewed the process of disbursement of money.
He directed making suitable sitting arrangements in tents by following social distancing due to coronavirus.
The DC also listened some issues of applicants regarding biometric and said Nadra has planned a schedule to recheck thumb impressions of applicants from May 3, and this issue would be sort out very soon. AC said Rs 1,588,800,000 have been disbursed among 132,400 applicants in Ehsaas Program.
Meanwhile, the Price Control Magistrates imposed Rs 720,000 fine on 383 profiteers during last five days and registered cases against five shopkeepers for serious violation of the Price Control Act and sent them to jail.
The DC said 35 Price control magistrates were active in the markets and bazaars and in the last five days, 5,987 inspections have been carried out and action has been taken against the vendors for selling fruits, vegetables and groceries at exorbitant prices.
He said the process would continue and there will be no leniency for violators of rates regulations.
600 BAGS OF RICE SEIZED: Tehsil Sadar Assistant Commissioner (AC) Umar Maqbool Thursday took action against hoarders of essential items.
He raided a godown at Chainchal Singhwala and recovered 600 bags of rice and 500 bags of red pepper. He sealed the godown.
EX-SHO BOOKED: Garh police Thursday booked former SHO and nine cops on charges of trespassing on Thursday.
Rafaqat Ali lodged a complaint with Regional Police Officer (RPO) Riffat Mukhtar Raja, stating that former SHO Akmal Jamal Shah and nine cops entered his house when he refused to give bribe to the SHO for running a billiard club.
He accused the SHO of entering his house by scaling walls and torturing him and his family members. The RPO ordered a case against the ex-SHO and nine cops.
