Oxygen cylinder explosion claims one life in FB Area

The explosion of an oxygen cylinder in Karachi’s Federal B Area on Tuesday claimed the life of a man, who remains unidentified.

The Yousuf Plaza police said the incident took place outside a gas cylinder shop located at Zahid Square, Block 16, Federal B Area, Rashid Minhas Road.

The police and rescuers attended the scene after the explosion occurred. According to the police, cylinders were being unloaded from a truck when one cylinder fell onto the ground and exploded, killing one of the persons on the spot.

As the cylinder exploded with a loud bang, it badly hit the person whose body parts were shattered, the police said.

The deceased was yet to be identified, the police said, adding that no case had been registered so far.

Defence blast

Panic gripped the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area and its surroundings on the night between Monday and Tuesday after a loud explosion was heard in DHA Phase II within the limits of the Defence police station.

Police said the loud explosion caused injuries to two men and also damaged windowpanes of nearby buildings. Reacting to the information, police, firefighters, bomb disposal squad experts and rescue workers of different welfare associations reached the scene.

The blast took place at a bakery and the actual cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained. CCTV footage of the blast was shared on social media, which showed a powerful explosion taking place resulting in smoke and flames.

Defence SHO Muhammad Ali said the debris created by the explosion was being removed and the bakery was being washed to get any possible clue to ascertain the cause of the blast.

The injured included two brothers, Naik Muhammad, 17, son of Mir Muhammad, and Yar Muhammad, 27. Police said they both worked at the bakery. No case has been registered over the incident.
