PHF postpones all activities till August
LAHORE: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has decided to postpone all national and international activities till August as a precautionary measure against corona virus.
An official of the PHF revealed that the financial problems of PHF have also increased due to the lockdown. Corona virus continues to affect sports activities in Pakistan as well as around the world. After the national cricket team's tour of the Netherlands was postponed indefinitely, the Pakistan Hockey Federation also postponed all national and international activities till August.
According to the PHF schedule, the national junior hockey team was scheduled to play 12 matches in the first week of May in Europe against the junior teams of the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, which have been postponed due to coronavirus situation in those countries.
The national hockey team's tour of Europe in June-July has also been postponed. The Asian Hockey Federation has already postponed the Junior Asia Cup scheduled for June. In addition to international hockey competitions, PHF has decided not to hold any national event until the end of August, if the corona virus returns to normal. Training camps for national teams can be held before August, but no domestic hockey event will be held until August.
On the other hand, the corona virus and lockdown have increased financial difficulties of the hockey federation, the PHF officials are determined that they will soon be able to overcome these problems. It should be noted that video fitness tests of the players of the national hockey team were completed three days ago. The management of the national hockey team conducted video fitness tests of 48 players in two days to maintain their overall fitness.
